Tom Alderman has been a leader in the Roswell Arts Community for two decades. He has he has served as accompanist for The Michael O’Neal Singers and for The Michael O’Neal Chamber Singers for more than ten years. In addition, served as organist and Music Associate at Roswell United Methodist Church since 1987 and played a major role in the design of its 94-rank Möller pipe organ and its 58-stop digital Allen organ. He accompanies the RUMC Children’s choir rehearsals weekly August-April of each year, and plays for countless local weddings and funerals.
Through the years, he has wowed audiences with his musical talent and his ability to perform many difficult pieces from memory. He is a regular participant in the Sounds of the Spirit concerts at RUMC and has been given standing ovations in appreciation of his performances. He is also in demand as a recitalist in the greater area, where he is often called upon to play inaugural organ concerts.
Tom performed in New York’s Carnegie Hall in May 2000 as the accompanist for The Michael O’Neal Singers and the RUMC Sanctuary Choir in their performance of Schubert’s Mass in G. He represented internationally as accompanist for the International Methodist Choral Festival in England and for the Amalfi Coast Music Festival, both in July 2008.
Tom is a walking encyclopedia of music history, which he often shares with school children in the area and with adults who attend his concerts. He regularly gives organ demonstrations to preschool and elementary-aged children, where he explains how the RUMC organs function and demonstrates their – and his – many abilities. His modest countenance and patient manner make him a charismatic teacher. Almost every Sunday after church services conclude, one can find Tom still at the organ, graciously fielding compliments and questions from admiring congregants.
In addition to his musical talents, Tom has also held leadership positions in the American Guild of Organists.
