From the time of its origin, choral music
has always had the capacity to demonstrate profound and spiritual statements.
The Michael O'Neal Summer Singers will exemplify this expression of spirit and
soul through this concert combining choral masterworks and African-American
spirituals. Some of the most widely loved choral music of the past
several hundred years comes from the sacred masterpieces of our greatest
composers. The music that gave hope and sustenance to a beleaguered people on
their search for freedom reaches across race and culture to touch the hearts of
listeners. From magnificent choral outbursts such as Haydn's "The Heavens
are Telling" to the subdued plea for divine aid in the African-American
spiritual "Abide with Me". . . this concert by the first-ever Michael O'Neal
