MOS Opens 2000-2001 Season With Te Deums, Follows With Special Christmas Performance
Dear Friends and Supporters,
As those of us in The Michael O'Neal Singers begin our eleventh season of preparing and performing some of the world's greatest choral music, we are mindful that without you – our
audience – our labors would be in vain.
It is of course true that there can be enormous satisfaction derived from rehearsing a piece of music and observing it develop from its first read-through to a final, finished work of art. However, as profound as that sense of accomplishment can be, it is also the culmination of performance that causes our singers to rehearse so diligently week after week. It is the opportunity to share the music with you, our faithful audience, which encourages all of us who are performing to create an evening of memorable moments and memories.
The first two concerts of the MOS 2000-2001 Season will provide pomp, splendor, majesty, beauty and wonder. On Friday, October 27, at 8:00 PM, the MOS will perform Te Deums! Expressions of Praise.
The Te Deum, one of the earliest Christian canticles, utilizes a text which, while not from the Bible, has been
enormously popular for hundreds of years. The text begins: We praise Thee, O God; we acknowledge Thee to be the Lord. All the earth doth worship Thee, the Father everlasting…
The entire text is so strong, joyful and celebratory that it has come to be an expected part of many royal occasions in England, e.g., coronations and
birthdays. Our program will feature Te Deums by Haydn, Vaughan Williams, Britten, Walton and Rutter. Don't miss this glorious music of praise and celebration.
Christmas comes early for MOS, with Sing We Now of Christmas
taking place on Friday, December 1, at 8:00 PM. This will probably
be the first Christmas concert of the season for most of you, and The Michael O'Neal Singers will definitely put you in the holiday spirit. The concert will include popular well-known
carols, selections from G.F. Handel's monumental Messiah, and Benjamin Britten's haunting Ceremony of Carols. Featured also will be MOS favorites - tenor Oliver Sueing and
harpist Julie Albertson. This holiday concert will have something for everyone. Come celebrate the season with us.
Once again, thanks to all of you who have supported The Michael O'Neal Singers during its first ten years. As we begin the next ten years, we do so
with excited anticipation and with sincere gratitude for you.
Sincerely,
|
