Great American Music Joins Christmas Classics for Fall MOS Season
Dear Friends,

Dr. Michael O'Neal, founder and artistic director of The Michael O'Neal Singers.

Serious music, seriously fun. You may have noticed that phrase on our season brochure or web site – www.mosingers.com. The phrase may consist of only
four words, but it speaks volumes about The Michael O'Neal Singers, for it suggests who we are, what we do, and how we do it. In fact, I wish it were possible for all of you who
attend our concerts to also have the opportunity to observe MOS in a rehearsal, for it is there you would see the creative process in action.
On a Monday evening you would observe persons arriving from all over the metro area (and beyond) for an intense, but also exhilarating, 2½ hour rehearsal.
These people would have already completed a full day of activity and struggled through rush hour traffic to make it to rehearsal by 7:00 PM. Why? What brings about such a level of
commitment? MOS participants do it because they are enriched through the experience of singing a wide variety of wonderful music – this season including patriotic selections, choral
masterpieces, opera choruses, Broadway favorites, and much more! We come together to create something we could never do by ourselves, and in the process we grow both as an ensemble and as individuals.
In observing our rehearsal, you would also notice that there is laughter. I decided many years ago that I always wanted laughter to be
a part of every rehearsal I conducted, and am convinced that taking the music more seriously than we take ourselves results in better performances and happier performers. I hope
in our concerts you are able to observe that "joy of music making" on the faces of the singers.
It is indeed that very "joy" that should permeate all we do, both in rehearsals and concerts.
As a performance ensemble, we are most successful when we are able to share something of our love and appreciation of the music being performed with those of you who attend the
concerts. It is that relationship between performer and audience member that can never be replicated with even the most expensive, state of the art, home entertainment system. It is why our
concerts are the culmination of our work, and why I will look forward to seeing you all together (audience and performers) at Salute America! – A Musical Tribute to Our Nation on October 24 and at 'Tis the Season – Christmas with MOS on December 5 and 7.
All the best,
