Special "Days" Get The MOS Treatment in 2000 St. Valentine & St. Patrick Honored By MOS on Feb 13 and March 17
Dear Friends of MOS, Both Valentine's Day and Saint Patrick's Day will receive special recognition from The Michael O'Neal Singers this season as
we perform concerts celebrating each holiday. First, the highly acclaimed 24-voice Chamber Singers will present Songs of Love…and other subjects
on Sunday, February 13, at 3:00 PM in the sanctuary of Roswell United Methodist Church. In recognition of Valentine's Day the
performance will feature Liebeslieder Walzer (Songs of Love) by Johannes Brahms, a collection of lovely and light-hearted expressions of romantic love. Brahms matched the largely
carefree words with tuneful settings that evoke the memory of the waltz king, Johann Strauss, for whom he expressed great admiration. The concert will also include love songs in the form of Renaissance
madrigals and popular love songs such as Laura and Ain't Misbehavin'. …and other subjects will be represented with motets by Victoria and
Poulenc, and spirituals arranged by Moses Hogan.
Since this concert is not a part of the season subscription series, please be sure to order your tickets for this special performance. Should you be unable to attend on the 13th, the same program will be presented at Spivey Hall of Clayton College and State University on Saturday, February 19, at 8:15 PM.
March means Saint Patrick's Day and who better to celebrate the wearin' of the green
than The Michael O'Neal Singers? The full 160-voice chorus will present a St. Patrick's Day Celebration on Friday, March 17, at 8:00 PM. Don't miss this bit of Irish magic as the singers and guest instrumentalists perform a variety of Celtic and Gaelic tunes, ranging in
style from sacred music to traditional folk melodies. The highlight of the concert will be the world premiere of a work commissioned by the MOS. Scored for chorus and chamber ensemble, Return to Old Ireland
by Irish composer Mary McAuliffe blends the poetry of Walt Whitman and Y.B. Yeats with original text and music to create an enchanting work that
echoes with the tones and textures of the Emerald Isle. A special treat for all of us will be the presence of Ms. McAuliffe, who is coming from Ireland especially for our performance. (Click here to read more about Mary.)
Tickets for A St. Patrick's Day Celebration and Songs of Love
are $15 for adults and $12 for seniors/students. They may be purchased through the MOS office at 770-594-7974, from any chorus member, or at the door.
Spivey Hall tickets may also be purchased from our office or by calling the Spivey Hall Box Office at 770-961-3683.
