Getting to Know Us… Meet MOS President Toni Myers
To say that Toni has music in her blood is an understatement! Born in Stamford, Connecticut to an Irish Mother and Italian father, Toni grew up in
Lexington, Kentucky. The oldest of five children, she has wonderful memories of traveling to Florida vacations in the family station wagon, singing all the way! In her high school years, she and her
father, a physician and consummate pianist, would have their own version of "dueling pianos" as they played the two grand pianos in their home.
By the time she graduated cum laude from Stetson University in Florida as a voice major, Toni was an accomplished pianist, singer, and
conductor. In addition to stops in Vermont and Pennsylvania, Toni has lived in North Carolina, where husband Gary did his graduate work at Duke
University during which time sons Casey and Carson were born, and in Amelia Island, Florida. During the thirteen years she was there, Toni
founded The Amelia Island Chorale. From thirteen singers (12 women – 1 man) who responded to an ad placed in the local newspaper for the first
rehearsal, the group grew to 70 singers within two years. By the mid-1990s, The Amelia Island Chorale was well established with approximately 120 singers, and is still an active choral organization today.
A position with Georgia Pacific brought Gary, Toni, and sons to Atlanta in 1995. Since joining The Michael O'Neal Singers, Toni has proved an
invaluable member, acting as a section leader (Alto II), soloist, rehearsal conductor, member of the Board of Directors, and serving as the MOS Chorus President since September 1999. In Toni's words….Oh to sing! To
pull from the depth of your soul to God's ear… a voice of singing… This is heaven on earth to me!
