MOS Tackles Tinseltown In '03 Season Windup
Dear Friends,
If you have not already purchased your tickets for the final concert of the 2002/2003 MOS
Season, do it soon! Hooray for Hollywood: MOS Goes to the Movies promises to be one of the most entertaining and popular programs we've ever presented. You'll hear classics like Barber's
poignant Adagio for Strings, heard in Platoon and The Scarlet Letter, the dramatic O Fortuna from Carl Orff's Carmina Burana and featured in Excalibur, and Richard Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries, as experienced in Apocalypse Now, which will rattle the windows when performed by Tom Alderman on the mighty Möller organ of Roswell UMC.
Both Oscar winners and losers will be heard as we sing such memorable songs as When I Fall in Love, They Can't Take That Away from Me, Over the Rainbow, As Time Goes By,
and Can You Feel the Love Tonight. I'll let you try to figure out which are the winners and which are the losers, but we'll be sure to let you know at the concert!
John Williams, one of the most prolific film composers of the past two decades, will be represented in selections from Empire of the Sun, Amistad, and Saving Private Ryan
. Williams is a genius at writing music that perfectly matches the mood created on the screen and you will relive portions of these movies as you hear his music.
In the 'Stage to Screen' section of the program, we will feature music from Broadway plays that subsequently became Hollywood musicals. Favorite songs from Paint Your Wagon,
Finian's Rainbow, The Music Man, and Chicago will have you wanting to dance in the aisles!
There's much more, but in the best Hollywood tradition…. we must keep some surprises for
the show, so you will come join us on Friday, May 16 at 8:00 p.m. I promise you won't be disappointed!
All the best,
