Music of the Stage Offers Fitting Climax to 2003-2004 MOS Concert Series
Join us when the curtain falls on the 2003-2004 concert season, as The Michael O'Neal Singers pay tribute to the world of opera and musical theatre. Presented on Friday, May 14
at 8:00 p.m. in our home venue at Roswell UMC, Music of the Stage will feature internationally acclaimed tenor Michael Sylvester, along with
the 135-voice symphonic chorus, performing well known operatic standards and current show tunes from the stages of Europe and America.
From beloved favorites such as Verdi's "Anvil Chorus" (Il trovator) and "Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves" (Nabucco) to Wagner's "Pilgrims' Chorus" (Tannhäuser) and "Bridal Chorus" (Lohengrin) , this program of beautiful song will also include selections by Mozart, Puccini and Tchaikovsky. MOS "gives its regards to Broadway" with medleys from the hit musicals Ragtime and Aida, pairing Elton John's setting of Aida with the "Triumphal Scene" from
Giuseppe Verdi's Aida for a rousing conclusion to the evening's musical entertainment.

Widely considered one of the finest lyric spinto tenors of his generation, Michael Sylvester has sung leading roles in the major opera houses of the world, including, among others, the Metropolitan
Opera, London's Covent Garden, Milan's La Scala, Vienna Staatsoper, and Opera Australia's Sydney Opera House. Some of his many opera roles include Radames in Aida (which he has sung more than
150 times), the title role Don Carlo in Don Carlo, Adorno in Simon Boccanegra, Cavaradossi in Tosca, Pinkerton in Madame Butterfly, Calaf in Turandot, and Samson in Samson and Delilah. Concert
performances include Verdi's Requiem, Mahler's Das Leid Von Der Erde and Symphony No. 8, and Beethoven's Symphony No. 9.
Mr. Sylvester was featured in numerous Saturday matinee Metropolitan Opera Radio Broadcasts, heard across the USA and around the world. Among his recordings are the title role in Don Carlo with James Levine (Sony Classics), Adorno in Simon
Boccanegra with Sir George Solti (Polygram video), Calaf in Turandot (EMI video), Mahler's Symphony No. 8 with Robert Shaw (Telarc) and Mendelssohn's Die ertse Walpurgisnacht (Arabesque). In October 2001, Mr. Sylvester made his
professional directing debut staging AIDA for the Indianapolis Opera, to great critical acclaim.
