Pre-Concert Anecdotes Add Interest to Rachmaninoff Performance
Prior to the performance of the Rachmaninoff Vespers at Roswell UMC (Sunday, March 14), Dr. Michael O'Neal will give a pre-concert talk to
provide interested listeners with background information on the composer, this specific work and its historical context. Dr. O'Neal was a
member of the Robert Shaw Festival Singers which performed this composition on the Grammy Award winning Telarc release recorded in France during the summer of 1989. From his own personal experience
performing and recording this work under the direction of the late Maestro Robert Shaw, he will share interesting and informative anecdotes about the music itself and the intense, and sometimes
humorous, process of "making the music happen" with Mr. Shaw and his singers.
The pre-concert talk will be held in the Roswell UMC Sanctuary at 3:00 p.m. and is open to anyone attending the performance. The
performance will begin at 4:00 p.m.
