MOS Elijah Performances Deemed "A Resounding Success"
The Michael O'Neal Singers' recent performances of Mendelssohn's dramatic oratorio, Elijah, were warmly received at Roswell UMC and The Temple on Peachtree. Over 1500 people heard the full chorus, five soloists, organ and timpani present a version of Elijah described by Atlanta Journal-Constitution Classical Music Critic, Pierre Ruhe, as "a fluent, persuasive performance, of thundering climaxes in the desert sun and tender quiet passages, cool as the shade under an oasis palm." He further stated that "the O'Neal Singers brought it all to glorious life" and "sang with a brushed velvety sound." Ruhe applauded the soloists as singing "with a much-appreciated mixture of control and panache" and summed up the final sequence of the oratorio as "crisply and movingly sung, a pleasure to hear."
The MOS performed Mendelssohn's Elijah to critical acclaim at The Temple on Peachtree in March.
