2005 - 2006 MOS Season Features Unique & Dynamic Concerts
The 2005 – 2006 Michael O'Neal Concert Season is rapidly taking shape and will include a number of exciting events. Our Christmas Concert on Sunday afternoon, December 4, will feature special
guests: the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet. The Quintet, comprised of some of the finest brass players in the Southeast, will perform a
number of selections by themselves, as well as perform with MOS. This concert will include a wide variety of Christmas music, both sacred and secular, and should be great fun for the entire family.
Another special feature of the season will be a performance of Arthur Honegger's dramatic musical creation, King David,
on Sunday afternoon, March 12, 2006. Combining features of oratorio and opera, this powerful presentation for chorus, chamber orchestra, soloists, and narrator will also include
several movements with dance, specially choreographed for our performance. This will be a one-of-a-kind event, not to be missed.
Maestro Robert Shaw (1916-1999), the famed choral and symphonic conductor, will be honored on Friday, May 5, 2006, in a concert entitled Robert Shaw Remembered. Featured guest will be Alice Parker, long time collaborator
with Shaw in a series of historic choral arrangements for the Robert Shaw Chorale (1948-1965). MOS will perform spirituals, folk songs, Stephen Foster favorites, and other
selections by the well known Shaw-Parker duo. Alice will also share stories and anecdotes of her association with Shaw. All lovers of choral music will find this concert to be
a memorable evening.
The Michael O'Neal Singers also will participate with the Atlanta Ballet in performances of Carl Orff's Carmina Burana during the last week of October 2005. This will mark the
fourth time in as many years that MOS has been asked to serve as the chorus for the Atlanta Ballet. The relationship with this excellent Atlanta arts organization is one which
MOS is pleased and proud to continue.
These are just some of the things in store for our audience during the 2005-2006 Season. During the coming weeks
the entire Season will be finalized and announced. Plan to be a part of it.
