Carnegie Hall Conducting Debut for MOS Founder/Artistic Director New York Performance Local Preview Performance
Sunday, May 28 8:30 p.m Sunday May 21 3:00 p.m
On Sunday, May 28, 2000, Dr. Michael O'Neal will add a Carnegie Hall conducting appearance to his already impressive resume as he leads a choir of 130
singers from The Michael O'Neal Singers and the Roswell UMC Sanctuary Choir in a performance of Schubert's Mass in G.
In accepting an invitation from Mid-America Productions to conduct at Carnegie Hall, Michael was able to extend the invitation to his singers from both the MOS and the church for a memorable opportunity to perform
at one of the world's premiere concert venues. In so doing, he has the added honor of bringing his own "sound" to New York.
The singers will be joined in the performance of Schubert's Mass in G by professional soloists Janet Hopkins (soprano), Eric
Ashcraft (tenor), and Steven Jepson (baritone), as well as organist Tom Alderman and instrumentalists from the New England Symphonic Ensemble. The concert, which also includes Fanshawe's African Sanctus
performed by a combined chorus of singers from various states, conducted by Robert Harris, will be presented at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 28 at Carnegie Hall.
Tickets to the Carnegie performance can be purchased through the Carnegie Box Office at 212/247-7800 or by linking to the Carnegie Hall web site through www.mosingers.com.
A preview performance of the Schubert Mass will be presented in Roswell on
Sunday, May 21 at 3:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary of the Roswell United Methodist Church as a part of Roswell UMC's Sounds of the Spirit Concert
Series. The chorus will be joined in this presentation of the work by instrumentalists from Georgia Sinfonia and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, organist Tom Alderman, and soloists, including soprano Arietha Lockhart (The
Creation, 1999). The concert is open to the public with no admission charge. An offering will be taken. Call the church Music Office (770/594-0512) for additional information about this concert.
